Photographer Comments: The trail of sparks escaping from the fire pit in this picture takes me back to when my wife and I visited the holiday ellipse in front of the White House every holiday season when we lived in Washington, D.C. The Yule Log was a popular spot to warm yourself from the bitter cold; needless to say it never disappointed. Admittedly dark, I like this picture because the National Holiday Tree and the fire pit are the dominent focal elements in the frame. It is difficult to see much detail anywhere else but I don't feel this detracts too much from the image.
