This is a photograph of some leaves caught in the gutter of the fountain at The United States Navy Memorial in Washington DC on Pennsylvania Avenue. This photograph captured in October, 1999 was taken by Jim Epler during the fall in Washington, DC at The United States Navy Memorial on Pennsylvania Avenue. It is cataloged under the terms cities, urban scenes and parks & fountains in this photography database.
The image was exposed on 35mm Kodak Tri-X 400 black & white film stock using a Pentax Asahi Spotmatic II camera with a Asahi Pentax 135mm f/2.5 lens stopped to f/6.7 and exposed at a speed of 1/60th of a second.
Photographer Comments: I found the roar of the fountain and the splashing of the water at the memorial quite mesmerizing on this rather chilly, cloudy October day. Although I didn't capture an image that is truly representative of the Navy Memorial itself, I like this picture because of the cold tone it exudes and the narrow depth of field between the leaves in the fountain's gutter and the geysers in the background. Downtown Washington DC can be a cold place on an overcast day.
